Consultant in Paediatric Emergency MedicineKene graduated from a Nigerian medical school and proceeded to gain postgraduate paediatric experiences in Nigeria, Ireland, and the UK. He completed dual training in Paediatrics and Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) in the Midland region of England, and obtained certificate of completion of training in 2022.
During postgraduate training, Kene championed the concept of choosing wisely through projects that resulted in reduction of unnecessary investigations, improved cost savings and service user satisfaction. Kene sat on the executive committee of PERUKI during his PEM training years.
Kene got a distinction in Masters in PEM from the University of Edinburgh. He also has postgraduate degrees in allergy and simulation based clinical education.
Prior to return to Ireland in 2025, Kene worked as a PEM Consultant in the NHS for 2.5 years in Blackpool and Manchester. He has recently taken up a substantive post as the first PEM consultant in University Hospital Galway in January 2026.
His interests include simulation based education, child health promotion and health equity. He is an ALSG recognised APLS director, and regularly teaches APLS in addition to ATLS provider courses with Royal College of Surgeons, England.
Kene is often thinking of ideas to support delivery of equitable care, support shared decision making and reducing unnecessary paediatric emergency department attendances.
